Franklin Police Department

The Franklin Police Department in Massachusetts earned certification from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission in May 2021 and full accreditation from the same commission in October 2022, a voluntary process that writes recognized law enforcement practices into department policy. Its Co-Response Program pairs licensed clinicians with officers: the clinicians ride in cruisers, respond directly to calls involving mental health crises, drugs or addiction, and recommend care and follow-up so that people are not steered into the criminal justice system without need, and the department posts a co-response report each year. Officers sent to reported overdoses carry naloxone, defibrillators and other medical gear, and the department works with the SAFE Coalition on addiction education. A Police Station Building Committee set up by the Town Council is studying a possible expansion or renovation of the current station, beginning with a needs analysis and design. Residents can commend an officer through an online form, file an emergency information form, read public information and arrest logs, and ask for crash or incident reports through an online records system under the Massachusetts Public Records Law (M.G.L. c. 66, section 10).
