Baker County Sheriff's Office covers all of Baker County in eastern Oregon, from Baker City to Halfway, Haines, Huntington, Richland, Oxbow, Unity and Sumpter. Its operations include patrol, dispatch, corrections, civil process, parole and probation, search and rescue and a reserve program. Patrol deputies respond to emergencies and routine calls for service, investigate crimes, enforce traffic laws and run D.A.R.E. lessons in schools. Baker County Dispatch employs full-time telecommunicators who complete the state DPSST academy and earn Advanced Emergency Medical Dispatch and NCIC/LEDS certifications; it also runs a narrowband radio system of 18 repeaters on nine sites, including one across the state line, carrying separate law enforcement, fire and EMS, and road department networks. The Baker County Jail, like other Oregon county jails, is a maximum security facility holding men and women separately, whether awaiting trial or serving sentences under a year. Civil fees follow state statute, effective July 1, 2021, with an $89 minimum for enforcement actions and $50 for notice process on one or two parties. Reserve deputies train in both patrol and corrections and help with jail shifts, mental health watches, transports and security at events such as the Miners Jubilee.
