Summit County Sheriff's Office

Visitors can double or triple Summit County's population during peak seasons, so the Summit County Sheriff's Office in Utah plans for crowds as much as for calls: its Patrol Division, which includes a Motor Unit and a K9 Unit, plans and staffs well over a hundred special events each year, and the motor deputies focus on peak traffic hours, local complaints and traffic studies. The Summit Communication Center, staffed around the clock by emergency medical dispatch-certified dispatchers, answers for every public safety agency in the county, from Kamas police and Park City Fire to Animal Care and Control, the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and UDOT. Detectives, school resource officers and evidence and forensic staff make up the Criminal Investigations Division. The county jail is built to hold about a hundred inmates and brings medical and dental care, its own kitchen and court access inside the facility to cut down on transports. Volunteer Search and Rescue members train year-round, and the team's remotely operated vehicle unit, equipped with sector-scan sonar and cameras, searches underwater for victims and can be requested by other agencies in Utah and neighboring states. A Community Partnership Unit gives safety talks and joins community events.
