Henry County Sheriff's Office

With 206 sworn deputies, 24 support employees and a fleet of 101 vehicles, the Henry County Sheriff's Office describes itself as a full-service law enforcement and corrections agency for a southside Virginia county of about 49,000 residents (2025 Census estimate). Its newest facility, the Henry County Adult Detention Center, began housing inmates on March 25, 2022; the 400-bed jail has maximum, medium and minimum security pods and a work-release program. In 2019 the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission re-accredited the office after it met all 190 state standards then in force. A West Piedmont manpower pool lets Henry, Pittsylvania, Franklin and Patrick counties, Danville, Martinsville and Rocky Mount call on one another for searches, disasters and civil disorder, and a West Piedmont Regional Homicide Investigative Squad pools investigators and resources to solve homicides. Residents who buy or sell online can meet in the office's Swap Zone, designated parking spaces in front of the building that are available in daylight and under 24-hour video recording, though deputies do not supervise the exchanges. The joint Martinsville-Henry County Crime Stoppers program pays rewards of up to $2,500 for tips leading to an arrest and conviction.
