Across the Columbia River from Wenatchee, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office in Washington handles a caseload that in 2026 ranged from fatal collisions in East Wenatchee to the Chelan Hills Fire investigation, in which detectives had made five arrests by late September and opened the case records to the public. Patrol is the office's largest and most visible division and its first line of service, while two detectives and a detective sergeant, working under the chief criminal deputy, carry cases from every part of the county. The Civil Division, led by a chief civil deputy, serves legal papers, carries out evictions, conducts sheriff's sales of real and personal property and enforces court orders. A dispatch center takes 911 and non-emergency calls and dispatches twenty-three law enforcement, fire and emergency medical agencies in a two-county system. County emergency management also sits under the sheriff, covering mitigation, preparedness, response, recovery and homeland security planning. Records staff respond to public records requests within five business days, and the office posts Level 2 and Level 3 registered sex offenders online and offers a mobile app for alerts and updates.
