Unincorporated Jefferson County on Washington's Olympic Peninsula stretches from Port Hadlock, Port Ludlow and Chimacum to Brinnon, Quilcene, Queets and the Hoh Tribal Reservation, and the sheriff's patrol division covers all of it with fifteen patrol deputies, three sergeants and a captain, plus a detective sergeant and two detectives. A marine patrol unit of eight commissioned deputies and a captain, each certified through Washington State Parks boating enforcement training, responds to incidents on county waters at any hour and adds weekend boat patrols between Memorial Day and Labor Day. A Navigator, a Discovery Behavioral Health crisis case manager funded through a Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs grant, works out of the office so deputies can hand off people in a mental health crisis for follow-up care and connection to services. The Civil Division serves process, enforces civil court orders and provides courthouse security, while sworn corrections deputies and civilian staff run the county jail. Volunteers in Police Service help with vacation home checks, home security education, the radar trailer and boating safety, and the office also handles concealed pistol licenses, fingerprinting and sheriff's sales.
