Ferndale’s elevation is 50 feet, and it has a population of about 1372 people (2010 census), living within one square mile of city limits. Due to its coastal proximity (Centerville beach is only 5 miles out of town), the weather is mild all year long. In 1893 Ferndale was granted incorporation as a “General Law” city, that is, the city was not granted a separate charter, but falls under the “General Law” of the California statute. This city council sets policy while the City Manager runs the day-to-day business of the City. The mayor is elected separately from the City Council, and has appointive powers, subject to the approval of the council. City Hall is open Monday-Thursday from 9:00am-4:00pm. If you have any other problems with the website please call City Hall and we will do our best to assist you. Non-emergency: (707) 786-4224. Dial 911 for emergencies.
