Bel Aire Police Department

Bel Aire, in the northeastern corner of the greater Wichita metropolitan area, has a police department of 16 employees and six volunteer reserve officers. Its Patrol Division works around the clock in three shifts, each supervised by a sergeant or the lieutenant who commands the division, with at least two officers in marked cars per detail answering calls, enforcing traffic law, investigating crimes and crashes and patrolling business districts, parks and neighborhoods. Patrol officers also carry follow-up investigations, from misdemeanor traffic charges to felonies, through charging and court. Reserve officers are fully commissioned, armed and uniformed volunteers who go through the same application process as paid officers and help mainly in patrol and court services, with some qualified to patrol alone. A free Senior Citizen Patrol checks homes, vehicles and outbuildings for residents who are away, as often as twice a day, and visits older residents who live alone or have just left the hospital. Residents can report ongoing neighborhood problems through a form that invites them to help solve them, and McGruff the Crime Dog appears at neighborhood watch meetings, school programs, Bicycle Rodeos and Bel Aire Days.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau (ACS 2023), Bel Aire city, KS has an estimated population of 8,654.
