According to the Boise Police Department's 2025 Report to the Community, the city's combined violent and property crime rate fell to a 25-year low that year even as calls for service rose 9 percent, a jump driven by a 21 percent increase in officer-initiated activity. Traffic enforcement was a clear focus: stops climbed 34 percent to an average of about 3,021 a month. The Idaho capital's department counts nearly 400 people, about 300 of them sworn officers backed by roughly 100 civilian staff, and it divides the city into Valley and Bench policing districts that it uses to publish calls, crime and traffic data on public dashboards. During 2025 the department opened its White Water Station on State Street, bought a new mobile command vehicle and a rescue vehicle, added a third Behavioral Health Response Team and published a strategic plan. Its lone full-time organized retail crime investigator, named the Organized Retail Crime Association's 2025 Law Enforcement Partner of the Year, has led more than 100 investigations and 61 felony arrests since early 2024. For 2026 the city council funded six additional detective positions and the department plans a shelter and support services liaison.
