Brownstown Township Police Department

Brownstown Township's police department in Michigan's Downriver region is organized into two divisions, Patrol/Operations and Support Services, with 38 full-time sworn officers. Uniformed patrol officers answer calls, run preventive patrols and handle traffic enforcement, while two specially trained crash investigators take serious collisions and felony and high-misdemeanor traffic cases. Detectives follow up on complex cases and prepare them for court with the prosecutor's office. Because many incidents cross municipal lines, Brownstown assigns officers to the Downriver SWAT team, the Downriver Crisis Negotiations Team, the Downriver Crash Investigations Team and the Downriver major crimes task force. Support Services includes the school liaison officers assigned to Woodhaven High School and Brownstown Middle School, and a civilian-staffed 911 center that dispatches both police and fire around the clock. A ten-member honor guard drawn from police and fire volunteers its time to honor fallen public safety officers, and its members join community events alongside the department's chaplain corps. Residents can request vacation patrols, apply for Toys for Tots, drop off unused prescription drugs and follow the work of the department's K9 team.
