Burlington County Sheriff's Department

Keeping the Mount Holly courts complex safe for judges, staff and the public is a core job of the Burlington County Sheriff's Office in New Jersey, whose officers also bring inmates from correctional facilities around the state into its courtrooms and deal with criminal and safety problems in county buildings. Seven main bureaus and units make up the office. The Civil Process Unit delivers legal papers and enforces judicial orders involving levies, foreclosures and writs of execution, and the office holds sheriff's sales of foreclosed property, with online place-in-line registration, begun in November 2024, for defendants, next of kin and tenants hoping to buy a property back. A Detective Bureau, split into child support, fugitive and investigations units, tracks down fugitives and people wanted on civil child support warrants. The Emergency Services Unit trains in weapons and special tactics for active shooter or hostage incidents in the courts and for high-risk entries. K-9 teams specialize in explosives detection and work with New Jersey's statewide detect-and-render-safe task force, while an Internal Affairs Unit investigates misconduct complaints from the public against sworn members. A Community Outreach Unit brings safety and educational programs to residents of all ages.
