Cape May County Sheriff's Officee

Based in the Middle Township community of Cape May Court House, the Cape May County Sheriff's Office secures the county's courts and runs its correctional center at the southern tip of New Jersey. Its Law Enforcement Division carries out civil mandates issued by New Jersey's Superior Court, such as sheriff's sales, subpoenas and levies on wages and property, and protects judges, jurors and witnesses at the courthouse. That division also handles warrant service, victim assistance, identification and communications, prisoner transportation and a K-9 unit whose dogs detect narcotics and arson evidence and track people. A separate Civil Division at the Superior Court House serves process papers and executes writs of possession, attachment and replevin. The Corrections Division moved into a new correctional center on January 14, 2019, built where the former jail stood off Crest Haven Road, and offers GED classes, religious services, substance abuse programs, electronic monitoring and a labor assistance program for eligible inmates. The office's Crime Prevention Unit provides child fingerprinting, Project Lifesaver, school security surveys and Explorer Post 1692.
