Founded in 1674, the Cecil County Sheriff's Office marked 350 years of service in 2024 and remains the primary law enforcement agency for Cecil County, Maryland. Its Bureau of Law Enforcement is organized around administrative services and a Criminal Investigations Division and publishes an annual report, while its policy manual follows Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission requirements. Corrections is a large part of the mission. Correctional officers staff the Detention Center around the clock, handling booking, transport, health services and food service, and inmates can take GED, parenting, anger management, counseling and drug and alcohol classes while family members are allowed one 30-minute visit a week. A separate Community Corrections Center, a minimum-security facility with capacity for 124 men and women, holds people serving their sentences there, including weekend sentences of 48 hours or less. For the public, the office offers LiveScan fingerprinting that transmits prints electronically to Maryland's CJIS Central Repository for employment, licensing and handgun qualification checks.
