Cooke County Sheriff's Office

Patrol deputies with the Cooke County Sheriff's Office in Texas work four shifts, each supervised by a patrol corporal, to cover a wide rural county, and several deputies hold TCOLE field training officer certification and train new hires. Their work includes detecting crimes and arresting suspects, answering calls for help, keeping the peace, DWI and narcotics interdiction and backing up other agencies. The office uses Flock Safety license plate cameras for retroactive searches and real-time alerts on hotlisted vehicles, helping locate wanted people, stolen cars and missing persons and curb catalytic converter thefts, and it publishes its policies and usage statistics for the system. The Communications Division answers 911 calls around the clock with TCOLE-certified telecommunicators and dispatches for county EMS, constables, several city police departments, state troopers, game wardens and a long roster of volunteer fire departments. The jail in Gainesville is a 212-bed indirect-supervision facility whose detention staff work four shifts, each led by a sergeant and a corporal. A victim assistance director helps crime victims understand the court process and victims' rights under Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 56A, with help available in Spanish.
