Thirty-four patrol officers and supervisors, working three shifts, cover Evergreen Park, an Illinois village of about three square miles (2025 Census Gazetteer) and about 19,000 residents (2025 Census estimate) that also draws shoppers to several large retail centers. Besides answering in-progress calls and assigned incidents, the patrol division handles crossing guard details, traffic crashes and enforcement, stray animals and vacation watches. Where a squad car cannot go, officers from the Special Services Division ride bicycles and ATVs along bike and jogging paths, through parks and down railroad easements, and the same officers teach D.A.R.E., G.R.E.A.T. and other classroom programs in village schools from kindergarten through eighth grade. The investigations unit is staffed by eight full-time investigators, all state-certified juvenile officers, who handle homicides, robberies, sexual assaults, fraud, theft and burglary, process crime scenes with evidence technicians and act as the liaison to local, state and federal labs. Investigators are also assigned to the South Suburban major crimes task force, which takes on homicide cases across the region, and specially trained youth investigators handle every criminal and status offense case involving someone under 18 as a victim or offender.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau (ACS 2023), Evergreen Park village, IL has an estimated population of 19,498.
