A new IMPACT Unit of two uniformed officers, introduced by the Faribault Police Department in Minnesota in the summer of 2026, is named for its focus areas: investigative support, mental health follow-up, proactive work, accountability, outreach and analysis of trends. Its officers check in with victims, especially of domestic abuse, follow up on mental health, welfare and chemical dependency calls, connect unhoused residents with services while enforcing ordinances and conduct predatory offender registration compliance checks. The department's stated mission is professional and impartial law enforcement held to high standards of ethics and law. Since 2024, a Police Public Data Dashboard has mapped calls for service, which are public data under Minnesota Statutes section 13.82, with a reminder that many calls do not involve crimes. Retailers who want a gas drive-off investigated are required to send the notice of nonpayment described in Minnesota Statutes section 604.15 before police get involved. Residents can report crimes or suspicious activity through 911, by email or through a crime tip line, and can ask to remain anonymous. Daily police activity logs are posted, along with links to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the POST Board and the Rice County inmate list.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau (ACS 2023), Faribault city, MN has an estimated population of 24,458.
