Garrett County Sheriff's Office

The Garrett County Sheriff's Office enforces the law throughout Garrett County, Maryland, from its base in Oakland. Beyond patrol and warrant work, the office oversees the county's 9-1-1 public safety answering point, which receives and processes every emergency call for police, fire and EMS in the county; call-takers gather information, alert the right responders, keep radio contact and log each incident. All communications staff hold national certification in Emergency Medical Dispatch and Emergency Police Dispatch. The office also runs the Garrett County Detention Center and uses a K-9 for drug detection, including scans during traffic stops. Deputies join volunteers from other local agencies and the county Department of Social Services in an annual holiday gift event for children, and the office regularly seeks public tips on outstanding warrants.
