Glenview Police Department

Glenview's police department gives residents on the autism spectrum a simple tool for traffic stops and other encounters: a blue envelope. Through the Blue Envelope Program, participants carry an identifiable envelope holding their identification, contact information and vehicle documents, and handing it to a Glenview officer signals their communication methods and support needs, aiming to reduce misunderstandings and anxiety on both sides. The north suburban Illinois department is organized into three operational divisions, patrol, traffic and investigations, supported by a support services division and by the village's joint dispatch and public safety support services, all based at the Glenview Municipal Center. Each year the department hosts a free Citizens Police Academy for up to 20 residents or local business owners; the 2026 class met for 10 weekly evening sessions from February 19 through April 30 and covered patrol, dispatch, traffic, investigations, crime lab operations, community relations and police training. Residents heading out of town can file a vacant house alert so officers periodically check the outside of the home, and the department enforces the village's youth curfew ordinance for people under 17. A weekly incident summary is posted online every Tuesday.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau (ACS 2023), Glenview village, IL has an estimated population of 47,682.
