Glynn County Police Department

Much of coastal Glynn County, Georgia, from the unincorporated mainland to St. Simons Island and Sea Island, is patrolled by the Glynn County Police Department, a full-service agency with an authorized strength of 132 officers. Glynn County as a whole, including the city of Brunswick and its own police department, has about 88,000 residents (2025 Census estimate) and draws thousands of daily visitors to the Golden Isles. Uniformed patrol is organized into four community policing squads working 12-hour shifts, each commanded by a lieutenant serving as watch commander with a sergeant as shift supervisor. The department provides mutual aid to the Brunswick Police Department, the College of Coastal Georgia police, the Glynn County Board of Education police and the Georgia State Patrol's Jekyll Island post, and it works closely with the Glynn County Sheriff's Office. It has earned state certification through the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, a voluntary program that reviews compliance with more than 100 standards on management, personnel, training and operations. Families can file a special needs alert form so responding officers know about a resident's needs in advance, and the department publishes the policies governing its Flock license plate reader cameras.
