Kenton County Police Department

Kenton County police in Northern Kentucky formed an Aviation Section in 2016 to fly drones; the department reports nine FAA-certificated pilots for the unit. The department, which describes itself as a 40-plus officer agency, groups its specialized work in a Services Division that also covers the Bureau of Investigations, an Evidence Collection Unit, the Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction team, SWAT, narcotics investigations and internet crimes against children. Major cases such as murder, sexual assault, fraud, embezzlement and child exploitation go to the Bureau of Investigations, staffed by a detective sergeant, three general detectives and one detective who focuses on crimes against children. Evidence Collection Unit members are trained to develop latent prints, collect DNA, 3D-scan and photograph scenes and gather trace evidence; they process every major crime scene in the county's unincorporated areas and assist elsewhere in Northern Kentucky when asked, backed by a Special Investigations Van that brings lighting, power and work space. On drugs, the department works with the Northern Kentucky Drug Strike Force and the DEA, and it partners with the Kentucky State Police ICAC Task Force. School resource officers serve schools in the county's unincorporated areas.
