Lisle's police officers patrol and answer calls across about seven square miles of the DuPage County village known as The Arboretum Village, backed by an extensive civilian staff of records clerks, community service officers and crossing guards. Specially trained officers run the department's community policing programs, which include home and business security inspections, neighborhood watch, a school resource officer, the Illinois Premise Alert Program, IOTO suicide prevention and the Youth in Crisis Coalition, along with promotion of Smart911 and CodeRED emergency notifications. Since June 2008 the village has operated red-light photo enforcement at two intersections, Route 53 at Maple Avenue and Ogden Avenue at Yackley Avenue, aiming to reduce right-angle and turning crashes, total collisions and red-light violations; the village reports significant reductions in every crash category at both locations since the cameras went in and publishes the intersection statistics. The department's stated mission is a partnership with the community built on crime prevention, equal enforcement of the law and the protection of life and property for a diverse population. A citizen reporting tool lets residents tell the department about positive interactions with its staff or raise concerns, and an operational FAQ answers common questions about police procedures and training.
