Leesburg is headquarters for the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office, the main law enforcement agency for this Northern Virginia county, with district stations including Ashburn and Western Loudoun. Deputies train at the regional Northern Virginia criminal justice academy in Ashburn, where 19 recruits graduated from its 154th session in June 2026, and that September the agency graduated its 68th basic Crisis Intervention Training class of sworn and civilian members. Its Emergency Communications Center works alongside the county's combined fire and rescue system, and the Virginia Sheriffs' Association named one of its dispatchers 2026 Dispatcher of the Year. At the Adult Detention Center the office introduced its C.H.A.N.C.E. re-entry program, short for Changing Habits and Nurturing Community Engagements, in 2022, and in December 2025 one of its inmates became the first person in custody there to graduate with a Loudoun County high school diploma. In early 2026 the sheriff proposed adding school resource officers at elementary schools, beginning with FY27 funding; supervisors instead funded six additional SROs to close coverage gaps. The office scheduled the 56th session of its Citizens' Police Academy for September 10 to November 19, 2026, and an e-bike safety program targets risky riding by juveniles.
