Minidoka County Sheriff's Office carries out the duties Idaho Code sec. 31-2202 assigns to a sheriff: preserving the peace, arresting people who commit public offenses, attending the courts, keeping the county jail, serving process and keeping a public record of stolen cars that is shared with the Idaho State Police. The statute also directs the office to work with state police on highway safety, livestock inspection and theft laws, traffic regulation and crash response. Its civil law division serves executions, small claims, subpoenas, court orders, summonses, garnishments and writs of restitution and assistance, along with warrants of distraint for the county tax collector, charging $60 for service and return. The Marine Division, paid for entirely through boating safety grant money and the county's vessel account, patrols Lake Walcott and the Snake River stretch running 33 miles from Minidoka Dam to Milner Dam with a jet rescue boat and personal watercraft. Marine deputies inspect boats, enforce boating and operating-under-the-influence laws, tow disabled boats and dive to recover property, vehicles and victims, and they teach free Idaho Boating Basics classes. The Records Division keeps crash, citation and arrest files, does fingerprinting and records checks and answers report requests within three business days.
