Nolan County Sheriff's Office covers rural Nolan County, Texas, outside Sweetwater and Roscoe city limits, where deputies patrol over a thousand miles of improved county roads. Under a chief deputy and patrol sergeant, patrol deputies handle proactive patrol, emergency calls, traffic enforcement, drug interdiction, warrant service and civil papers, and they transport inmates to courts, state facilities and other jails, along with juvenile and mental health transports. The Criminal Investigations Division handles major cases, from theft and fraud to crimes against children, homicide and narcotics, processes its own crime scenes and evidence, and conducts applicant background checks and internal affairs inquiries. TCOLE-licensed telecommunicators staff communications around the clock, triaging emergency calls and entering legal documents into law enforcement databases. Commissioned Texas peace officers provide armed security for the Nolan County Courthouse. Civil process deputies serve income and property executions, evictions and summonses from local courts, attorneys and residents, with fees paid in advance under a schedule set through Local Government Code 118.131. Unpaid reserve deputies, licensed by TCOLE and committed to 12 hours a month, assist with patrol, courtroom security, transports, DWI enforcement and missing-person searches, and reserve detention officers support jail staff.
