Provincetown Police Department

Provincetown's police department in Massachusetts says it works in partnership with the community to protect the rights, safety and property of all people. Its bicycle team, started in 1992 as part of a proactive approach to law enforcement, now has nine officers cross-trained and certified in police bicycle operations. The assignment is mostly seasonal, supplementing regular patrol in the congested, largely pedestrian downtown, where bikes let officers reach crowded areas quickly and make them easier to approach; the team works parades, celebrations and fireworks and has supported undercover narcotics investigations. Every bike officer must complete COBWEB, the mountain bike patrol school certified by the Massachusetts Police Training Committee. The department also has an LGBTQ Liaison and Civil Rights Officer, treats hate crimes seriously, and works with the Attorney General's office and the Cape and Islands District Attorney to prosecute them. Anyone can send a crime tip anonymously by text, mobile app or online through Tip411. A designated Records Access Officer handles public records requests, which Massachusetts law (G.L. c. 66, § 10) generally requires to be answered within 10 business days.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau (ACS 2023), Provincetown CDP, MA has an estimated population of 3,466.
