Rabun County Sheriff's Office

Rabun County Sheriff's Office organizes its work in northeast Georgia into Uniform Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Detention Center and Court Services divisions. Patrol deputies keep a visible, responsive presence across the county, investigators follow cases through to accountability, and the court services unit handles courtroom security and legal process. As the county's official jailer, the sheriff oversees the 102-bed Rabun County Detention Center in Tiger, where staff keep records in line with GCIC and UCR standards, run an inmate work detail that supports both the facility and community projects, and post quarterly Criminal Alien Track and Report Act reports. Records requests are handled under O.C.G.A. sec. 50-18-70 and the sections after it, Georgia's open records law; requests must be in writing, the office answers within three business days, and copies cost ten cents a page plus allowable search and retrieval charges. Incident and accident reports can be requested online through a separate form. The office also keeps local and national lists of prevention, treatment and recovery programs, including men's and women's recovery homes, for families dealing with substance use, and points callers in an overdose emergency to 911 and the Georgia Poison Center.
