Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office

More than 500 employees work for the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office, a nationally accredited agency serving one of South Carolina's largest and fastest-growing counties through five divisions, each led by a captain. Uniform patrol deputies are usually the first to arrive, whether searching for a lost child or comforting a crime victim, and the School Resource Division, among the largest in the state with 58 deputies, covers six school districts, the South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind and four charter schools. Within criminal investigations, a Forensic Lab staffed by two board-certified chemists tests suspected drugs under ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation, and a Special Victims Unit of a sergeant and three investigators handles sex crimes and child and elder abuse with the Department of Social Services and the Spartanburg Children's Advocacy Center. Recent examples of that work include narcotics investigators who worked a multi-state distribution case with the DEA and traffic deputies taking part in a regional interdiction operation with other sheriffs' offices. The Detention Services Division runs the county detention facility and a home detention program for certain nonviolent offenders, and the office co-hosts Public Safety Explorer Post 203 with the North Spartanburg Fire Department.
