The Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office, headquartered in Lafayette in west-central Indiana, splits its work among an Enforcement Division, a Corrections Division and Administrative Services. Enforcement deputies respond to E-911 calls, enforce local laws and patrol the county with support from a sheriff's canine. Corrections staff operate the county jail, post a current inmate listing, set visitation hours and rules, offer video visitation and take bond payments and deposits to inmate accounts. Administrative Services and the Records Division process requests for crash reports, criminal incident reports, background checks, jail arrest records and certified or non-certified incarceration reports, and the office also provides fingerprinting, notary services and handgun permit processing under a fee schedule set by county Ordinance 2011-06-CL. Request forms can be mailed, faxed, emailed or dropped off in person at the county Law Enforcement Building, and records are released once the fee is paid. The office keeps the county's Sex and Violent Offender Registry, publishes a protected locations map and explains how registrants book appointments. A sheriff's office mobile app lets residents report crimes, send tips and follow public safety news.
