Twin Falls Police Department

Law enforcement in Twin Falls, Idaho dates to April 1905, when the village appointed a night watchman and road overseer, and the Twin Falls Police Department now has more than 100 employees. Two patrol platoons, each led by two sergeants and two corporals, handle most calls for service, supported by canine teams, bicycle patrol and a SWAT team. The Strategic Traffic Accident Reduction Team, formed in 2000, uses enforcement, education and community participation to cut collisions and injuries on city streets. The Hazardous Devices Unit earned national bomb squad accreditation from the FBI that same year, and every member must be certified through the FBI's Hazardous Devices School. Felony investigations, a Special Investigation Unit and victim and witness services make up the Criminal Investigation Division, where detectives screen felony and many misdemeanor cases for solvability. Since January 1979, when the department placed an officer at Twin Falls High School, its school resource program has grown into a Juvenile Crime Unit working across the Twin Falls School District. Community Connection Officers, an assignment begun in 2015, build trust with residents who may feel underrepresented, and a Citizens Police Academy for adults explains how the department works day to day.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau (ACS 2023), Twin Falls city, ID has an estimated population of 53,219.
