Two marked parking spaces on the south side of the Westmont Police Department in suburban DuPage County, Illinois are set aside around the clock, under video surveillance, for online marketplace sales and child-custody exchanges, with the lobby available during business hours. That Safe Exchange Zone is one of several services the department offers residents of the village. Through the Video S.A.F.E.R. program, short for Video Sharing and Assistance For Emergency Responders, homeowners and businesses voluntarily log public-facing cameras so investigators know whom to contact when footage could help solve a crime. A certified child passenger safety technician inspects and installs car seats free of charge by appointment on Wednesdays, officers make periodic vacation watch checks on homes for up to eight weeks, and an anonymous crime tip hotline takes reports of suspicious or illegal activity by phone or email. Each year the department opens its doors through adult and junior Citizens' Police Academies covering SWAT, crime scene processing and investigations. Officers are also major fundraisers for Special Olympics Illinois, collecting a record $57,114 in 2024, and the department maintains the village's sex offender registry.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau (ACS 2023), Westmont village, IL has an estimated population of 24,201.
