Winnebago Police Department is the law enforcement arm of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska and serves the Winnebago Reservation in northeast Nebraska, centered on the village of Winnebago in Thurston County. Officers handle patrol, calls for service and criminal cases for residents and visitors on tribal land. Alongside policing, the department runs the tribe's sex offender registration program under SORNA, a corrections unit, and a victim's assistance program, and it operates under oversight from a tribal police commission. Self-service sex offender registration kiosks are available at locations around the community. Jeremiah Lonewolf is Chief of Police. The department works with neighboring agencies such as the Thurston County Sheriff's Office, the Emerson Police Department, Dakota County agencies and the Omaha Nation's tribal law enforcement. The station is at 102 S. Bluff Street in Winnebago. For non-emergency police business call (402) 878-2245 or (402) 878-2491, and dial 911 in an emergency.
