Detail

The Basic Instructor Course (BIC) offered by the Texas Department of Public Safety is an intensive, five-day training program designed for aspiring instructors seeking to develop their teaching skills and methodologies. The course meticulously covers a wide array of topics and combines theoretical knowledge with practical exercises for a holistic learning experience.

Course Outline:
  • Introduction to Instructional Media: Learners will define instructional media, discuss its uses, list effective characteristics, identify basic aids and equipment, and demonstrate proper usage techniques. Misuses of instructional media and preparation of various types of instructional aids are also covered.
  • Student Development: This segment focuses on preparing lesson plans that incorporate learning objectives and instructional aids, preparing students for teaching presentations.
  • Student Teaching Exercises: A series of exercises where students select a topic, prepare a lesson plan, and present it within a specified time limit. They will use instructional aids and implement all five phases of instruction during the presentation. Students will also develop evaluations based on the lesson's learning objectives.
