This essential 4-hour training program, "Canine Encounters," is designed to enhance law enforcement officers' ability to handle situations involving dogs with confidence and professionalism. Effective January 1, 2016, this class is mandated within two years of completing the Basic Peace Officer Course. It also fulfills requirements for Intermediate and Advanced Peace Officer Proficiency Certification. The course covers critical areas including: Understanding canine behavior and body language Strategies for safely and effectively managing canine encounters in various scenarios Legal considerations and use-of-force guidelines related to interactions with dogs Practical techniques for de-escalating potential threats posed by canines Participants will gain invaluable knowledge that ensures both public safety and the humane treatment of animals during police operations. The training combines theoretical instruction with practical exercises, providing a well-rounded approach to handling canine encounters.
