Broken into various topics, the week-long course covers the following objectives as well as others: Guidelines for conducting crime scene searches Conducting preliminary investigations Understanding the importance of the chain of custody, a final survey of the crime scene, debriefings, maintaining case files and conducting follow investigations Organizing a search action plan Establishing a command post and search team Learning the considerations of identifying, marking, collecting, and preserving evidence Identifying investigations tools and equipment for crime scene searches Identifying different classes of evidence Taking personal safety precautions when collecting evidence TCOLE mandates this course for law enforcement officers to become an intermediate level peace officer.
