The NHTSA SFST's Practitioner Refresher (4-hours) (#2178) is an intermediate-level TCOLE eligible training course that focuses on improving and maintaining the skills of applicants who are already knowledgeable in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST). This four-hour refresher course will cover the three components of SFST: Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, Walk and Turn, and One Leg Stand. Participants will gain an updated understanding of DUI laws and the legal implications of these tests. They will also review the standardized clues for each test and practice procedures to ensure accuracy when conducting the tests. During this four-hour course, participants will practice administering the tests with a focus on accuracy, court acceptance, and confidence while working with real-world scenarios. The goal is for participants to leave the course feeling more confident in their application of SFSTs as a tool to identify intoxicated persons in order to protect public safety.
