Detail

Patrol breaching training is a specialized course designed to equip law enforcement officers with the skills and knowledge necessary to successfully and safely breach doors and windows, regardless of whether they are part of a tactical unit or not. This training is essential for situations where immediate entry into a building or room is necessary, such as during a hostage situation or when pursuing a suspect.

The training usually begins with an introduction to Tactical Breaching Concepts. This includes understanding the principles and tactics behind breaching, such as distraction, speed, and surprise. Officers learn how to analyze a target – identifying weak points, potential hazards, and the best approach for a successful breach.

Next, officers are trained in Breach Point Selection. This involves assessing the structure to be breached, including the material and construction, and determining the most effective point for breaching.

One significant component of the training is the use of Manual/Mechanical Breaching Tools. Officers are taught how to use various tools such as a halligan, ram, and sledge. Each tool has specific uses and advantages, so understanding when and how to use each one is critical.

Practical application is a vital part of the training. Officers are given hands-on experience in a controlled environment, allowing them to apply the concepts and techniques they have learned. This practical experience includes breaching actual doors, giving officers a realistic understanding of the process.

Overall, patrol breaching training is a comprehensive program that equips officers with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to effectively breach structures when required, enhancing their ability to respond to critical incidents and ensuring the safety of both officers and civilians.

Prerequisites: Prerequisites for the training include being an accredited peace officer and maintaining a valid license.

Required Equipment: Bringing water to stay hydrated is essential in any kind of physical activity. You may bring your own Halligan or sledgehammer if you have been issued one (optional).
