The Corpus Christi FREE 50-HR SFST Instructor Course is a comprehensive, five-day training program designed specially for licensed Texas Peace Officers.

This course aims to prepare participants to instruct Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST). The curriculum of the training is based on the guidelines provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP).

One of the highlights of the course includes hands-on demonstrations. This provides an excellent opportunity for participants to practically apply the knowledge they gain during the sessions. It also helps them get a better understanding of the techniques and procedures involved in SFST.

Another key feature of this training program is the wet labs with live drinkers. This unique aspect of the course allows participants to observe and understand the effects of alcohol on a person's physical and mental abilities. It provides them with an invaluable insight into identifying impairment in a real-world scenario.

One of the best things about this course is that it is completely free. This has been made possible due to a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation. This makes the program accessible to all Texas Peace Officers, regardless of their financial situation.

Prerequisites: In order to be considered eligible to attend this course, registrants must meet the following criteria: 1. Currently commissioned Texas Peace Officer
2. Successful completion of the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Practitioner Course, 2176 or 2067; or the SFST taken with Academy
3. At least three years of experience as a Standardized Field Sobriety Testing practitioner
4. Current basic instructor license or certificate issued by TCOLE (40 HR)
5. SFST Refresher update (an ARIDE or DRE update class is acceptable as well) within the last 2 years
