The use of tire deflation devices, also known as spike strips, stinger spikes, or road spikes, is an essential tactic in law enforcement for safely stopping fleeing vehicles. This training course will equip officers with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively utilize these devices in real-life scenarios.

Through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on exercises, participants will learn about the various types of tire deflation devices available, their proper deployment techniques, and potential risks associated with their use. The course will also cover legal considerations and department policies related to the deployment of these devices.

Participants will have the opportunity to practice deploying tire deflation devices in a controlled environment under the guidance of experienced instructors. They will learn how to effectively communicate with dispatchers and other responding units during a high-speed pursuit situation that requires the use of these devices.

Moreover, this training course will cover maintenance procedures for tire deflation devices, including storage, inspection, and repair. Participants will gain an understanding of proper handling and disposal practices to ensure the safety of themselves and others.

By the end of this course, officers will be proficient in utilizing tire deflation devices to safely stop fleeing vehicles while minimizing risks to themselves and bystanders. They will also be equipped with the necessary knowledge to make informed decisions when using these tools in high-pressure situations.

This training is designed for law enforcement officers at all levels who may find themselves involved in high-speed pursuits or other situations where the use of tire deflation devices is necessary. It is also beneficial for supervisors who are responsible for making tactical decisions during such events.
